The company started to expand in to new frontiers of the plaything industry. In 1971 LEGO did start to target young women with the adding of furnishings and dollhouses; in 1974 that introduced the first human being figures, known as Minifigures; and 1979 this expanded in space with sets highlighting astronaut minifigures, rockets, lunar rovers and spaceships. The Scala series first showed that same year, a line of earrings elements directed at young girls. This period also saw the creation of a managing structure, with Godtfred Kirk Christiansen’s child Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen getting started the managerial staff and working to modernize the company’s manufacturing methods.
The 1970s also observed the introduction of a system that allowed customers to pick certain bricks they planned to purchase and create their own units, rather than purchase pre-made guides; this was popular with adults, as well as kids. In the same decade, Seglar branched out into middle ages territory along with the Castle motif, and in 1980 the company added their first educate sets to its collection.

To maintain with these requirements, the company began to reduce total production coming back new products by making more use of computerized set up systems.
